The standard EN ISO 45001 supports continuous improvement in international occupational health and safety. It was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has replaced certification based on the previous British standard BS OHSAS 18001 as the basis for certifying a globally recognized occupational health and safety management system in 2021.

This standard follows the so-called "High Level Structure" (HLS) or "Harmonized Approach for Management System Standards" and ensures, through its unified structure, easy integration of the management system into other existing management systems such as:
- Quality Management DIN EN ISO 9001,
- Environmental Management System ISO 14001,
- Energy Management ISO 50001,
- Information Security ISO 27001 or
- Business Continuity Management ISO 22301.
